StepFarmer

FAQ

Quick answers. For the full mechanics, see the wiki.

What is StepFarmer?

StepFarmer is an idle farming game for Garmin smartwatches (Connect IQ). Your real daily steps power a farm: they grow crops, which you harvest for coins, which buy better crops and upgrades. Over time you unlock new fields and prestige for permanent boosts.

How do I earn coins?

Walking pushes your current crop toward harvest. When a crop completes, it pays out coins automatically. Better (unlocked) crops and upgrades pay much more, so reinvest your coins to speed things up.

Do my steps count when the app is closed?

Yes. StepFarmer tracks steps in the background and banks them, then applies them the next time you open the app. A daily reset at midnight keeps the count accurate. You do not need to keep the app open.

What is prestige, and should I do it?

Prestige resets a field (its coins, crops and upgrades) in exchange for a premium currency and a permanent prestige level. You spend that currency on upgrades that last forever and stack across runs. It is optional, but because the bonuses compound, prestiging makes future progress much faster. Aim to prestige once a run starts to slow down.

How do I unlock new fields?

Fields unlock with the previous field's premium currency: the Vegetable Garden at 100 Wheat Field Stars, the Orchard at 50 Vegetable Garden Seeds, and the Barn after reaching prestige level 5 in the Wheat Field, Vegetable Garden and Orchard.

What is the difference between the fields?

Wheat Field rewards specialising on one crop. The Vegetable Garden rewards variety and seasonal play. The Orchard is a long-term investment where trees keep their maturity through prestige. The Barn is the end-game: animals fed by your other fields produce Gold for universal upgrades.

Do all fields earn at the same time?

Yes. Every unlocked field receives your steps in parallel — you do not have to pick one. The watch simply displays one field at a time; use the "Go To" menu to switch which one you are viewing.

What is the Barn?

The Barn is the end-game field. You raise animals (chickens, sheep, cows, pigs, goats, bees) that are fed with coins from your other fields and produce Gold. Gold buys meta-upgrades that boost every field at once. It unlocks at prestige level 5 in the first three fields.

Which watches are supported?

StepFarmer supports 140+ Garmin Connect IQ devices, including Fenix 5–8, Epix, Venu/Venu Sq, Instinct 2/3, the Forerunner range (55–970), MARQ, Descent, Edge, Approach and more.

Can I move my progress to a new watch?

Yes. Open StepFarmer’s settings in the Garmin Connect app on your phone and copy the "Backup code". On the new watch, open StepFarmer’s settings in Garmin Connect, paste the code into "Restore code", save, then open StepFarmer — it will show "Progress restored!". Your save also carries over automatically when you simply update the app on the same watch; the code is only needed to move to a different watch.

How much does it cost?

StepFarmer is a one-time purchase — no subscription, no ads, no in-app purchases. The regular price is $3.99, but it is currently available at a special launch price of $1.99. Prices are plus VAT where applicable, so the exact amount shown in the Connect IQ store depends on your country. Once you own it, every field, feature and future update is included.

Is there a free trial?

Not yet. A free trial version is in the works, and we will link it here as soon as it is available — so you will be able to try StepFarmer before you buy.
